weekend

I had great weekend and finally found some time to see Trace Emin exhibition in Hayward Gallery and have some time for nice shopping. One of my new findings is a book Urban knits which is nice collection of playful ideas of using knitting and crocheting. It's seems that fabrics and threads are recently my object of interest but I guess it's because it's my Ma paper subject as well.

I love Apple Mint crochet books

As I got really in to crocheting and I am looking on different books and textile artists. I found those amazing crochet books form Japan they are cute and have great ideas and patterns to work form it looks that they are mostly in Japanese however I'm still tempted to get one of them and try it out. I'm just afraid they might be addictive. They are published by amazing Apple Mint publishing and so far I found they available here and here.

Laurence King new books

Laurence King book offer is getting better and better and it seems there is a bit competition between them Gestalten and Gingko Press. Cut and Paste a book about contemporary collage seems to be following the subject after Gestalten published Cutting Edge. However Laurence King seems to present little bit more fun publications like The Book of Skulls and The A-Z visual ideas: How to solve any creative problem for those stuck with a project...

New titles from Gestalten

There is already preview of new titles coming end of summer to the bookshops Gestalten, which is one of my favorite publishers comes with some exiting new titles. First is Delicate a book all about creative eating and new faces in the food industry showing new projects, places and products, very yummy.... Erratic a book exploring subjects of stabilty, symetry and movment in current work by artists, photographers and designers. The last very playful book with funny and clever images by Sarah Illenberger. And there is one more news about Gestalten they have opened Gestalten Space in Berlin which is a bookshop, concept store, gallery and a platform for artists to collaborate. I'm planning a trip to Berlin so this place will be first on my list.

Topor

My reading list is recently getting longer and longer and I think I'll need some holidays to get around all those books I have to read. One of my recent picks is is Alphabet by Roland Topor which is French artists with Polish roots. His work is very surrealistic and contains very specific type of humour. His is not very well known in England however it is some one to look at for sure.

The story about Chopin New Romantic

I'm not always up to date with the news. So I'm writing with a delay about it however I think it's quite interesting matter. The hassle is about comics book Chopin New Romantic order by Polish government to promote Polish culture and was meant to be given to students and pupils in German schools. The book is a collection of comics about Chopin illustrated by different artists and published by Kultura Gniewu. The publisher describe this publication as unusual and provocative. Each artist had they own way of presenting Chopin and it looks one of them create a story that no one was prepare for.Krzysztof Ostrowski create comics about Chopin going to jail to play a concert were the story ends up with fight and contains lots of swearing and shows very brutal reality of life in jail. This story started the talk about this publication and the message it's sending to young people. After all even it's been printed, it's been stop from going into readers hands. Some people even stared a facebook group to save this publication and it seems there where some results of it as the government made decision to published Chopin New Romantic however with few changes firstly the information about government input in this publication will be removed and the target audience change. I'm happy that the publication will get into readers hands however the behavior of Polish government leave me speechless as usual.....

I mange to find some illustration from this book online the first two are made by Patryk Mogilnicki and the last one by Agata 'Endo' Nowicka.

Salsa

One of my favourite book series is Salsa - series of Hispanic books including famous titles like One hundred years of Solitude by Gabriel Gracia Marquez. What I really like about those book is their covers with very simple graphic and bold colors. Something perfect for spring train traveling.
